Fun Activities For Frugal Families

I understand that you can’t put a price on time you spend with your family. But spending quality time with your family doesn’t have to break the bank. There are plenty of fun activities you can do with your family that are low on cost and high on fun. Here are some cheaper alternatives.

Movies

Kids like going to the movies, but there are ways to watch a movie at a fraction of the cost of going to the movie theater on a Saturday night. If you visit during the day you can catch the matinee at a lower cost. Skip the pricey snacks. Have them eat beforehand and again after the movie if they want. You can also rent a movie for a dollar at a RedBox or watch movies with your Nextflix subscription.

Nature

Camping is a great activity for families to do together. What’s good about it is the low cost. Camping can be as simple as putting up a tent in the back yard or making a long distance trip to a campground.

Park

Kids can be entertained at the park by the swings or they can play with other kids there. You can bring stuff too like a soccer ball, a frisbee or a kite to play with so they can be entertained for hours on end.

Beach

Going to the beach is a cheap way of having a fun filled day of entertainment. The kids can make sandcastles or they can play by the shore in the water.

Museum

Some museums offer admission at a low cost or they have free admission. Some museums are tailored to children or have sections that may be of interest to kids.

Local Zoo

Visiting a petting zoo will allow kids to get up close with animals they don’t see every day. Sure, there won’t be pandas or other exotic animals which are endangered there, but the kids won’t even know. They’ll enjoy seeing a llama or a monkey just as much.
